I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our beautiful Cherrydale community. What wonderful people live here! The kindnesses of many neighbors made my month with Kandy and Matsu joyful and easy. Thank you!
Last June I put out the word that I was going to host 2 girls ages 10 and 13 from Colombia for the month of July as part of the Kid Save program. To prepare fun activities for them I sent inquiries onto our list-serve about tennis rackets, electric pianos and piano teachers. I was inundated with offers to lend me the items needed. And it turns out the piano teacher lived in Columbia as a child! Perfect! Thanks Collin and Cynthia!
The Quinns donated a bicycle and Brian fixed it up for us. Another neighbor Bruce Wiljanen saw us looking at bikes to check sizing and lent us a 2nd bike plus helmet. Jim Todd rode by and saw Matsu's bike chain problem
and not only fixed it but adjusted the seats for all of us, pumped the tires and gave me a helmet. Rob Beckman fixed a flat tire.
Tracy Price forwarded the piano call to a friend who lent us the piano. In all, a half dozen families offered their pianos too. Joining June Million were another half dozen folks with rackets for the girls. Really you Cherrydaleans are AMAZING.
Meanwhile, my OUTLOOK email capacity died June 21st. Hence until last Friday I had not been able to send or receive email from home. It turns out my OUTLOOK Program was too jam packed with Cherrydale Files and we were at risk of losing access to them permanently, especially after Verizon, trying to be helpful, deleted my cloud file.
To the rescue came Mark Bildner who spent many hours repairing the files and getting OUTLOOK working again. I had already spent half a day with Verizon and then the Geek Squad. Mark, you top them all by a mile! Thank you Bildner family for lending your husband and dad to save our community files!
Scott and Kathy Springston offered their pool (remember it was over 100 degrees for days! I even have to thank Eric Dobson, who maintains the Cherrydale List-serve which has become such a wonderful format for communication and compassion. This is a gift that keeps on giving, even when the exchanges are heated. What a service.
Finally, I also want to thank Arlington County Parks and Recreation, which gave the girls a 50% discount for camp activities. In fact the ACPR has agreed to give a discount to any foster parent hosting KidSave children.
This significantly lowers the cost of hosting the kids! I hope to entice Cherrydale neighbors into fostering children next year. Call me to get the low down on this terrific program.
I am moving forward to adopt my girls. I can't wait for them to join our community. Hugs to all.
