Sidewalk Obstructions
Sidewalk Obstructions
We have complained about these 2 poles on N Lincoln St since 2004.
If you recall, County left an 8ft by 3 ft hole in sidewalk 20 feet up the hill, for YEARS. I found out they planned to install a new utility pole there, and as pipes were in middle of walk we protested, asking the County move the planned pole to the curb. County Board members Barbara Favola and Walter Tejada admitted it was poor design but specifically refused to change where the pole was planned saying County engineers thought it would be too expensive (around 80-100,000$. However outside contractors estimated only 30-40,000$. YEARS of protestation later, County STILL inserted a pole there and 2 large utility boots. Then they planted a bush around it and then finally put the sidewalk in. See photos, above.
We were also told by county engineers that the pole on the corner by lee hwy would be coming down. However not only did it not come down but then to show complete disregard for the community County added just now a 12 inch utility boot narrowing the sidewalk another inch, so it's less than 24 inches for passage, and then added a wire to hold the pole up, which is now pulling the sidewalk up several inches. See photos, 4 comes first (it took years to get county to take cable off sidewalk and tie to pole), then photo 5, then 6 (wire holding pole taut), 7 (new utility boot further narrows walk, debris left behind)) Voila, unusable sidewalk. The left sidewalk is tighter and usually overgrown w weeds in summer thanks to RED TOP TAXI ownership lack of maintenance. Moms walking children in strollers and people in wheelchairs use the middle of the street. Sidewalk is unusable. AND NOW the guidewire is pulling the sidewalk up at the corner. County is aware and plans no changes. The excuse is that eventually RED TOP CAB will develop this land and pay for improvements.
