Dominion Electric
Abe Abibezadah, from County DES, called to say that it is possible Dominion has an easement on your property to be able to cut branches 15 feet into your yard. I suggest you check with the county courthouse and if they DON'T have an easement you have a case. At the least you can contact the State Corporation Commission. What's the point of a county tree canopy program when Dominion comes by and cuts the street canopy away? They cut even small branches, straight up. It's a hatchet job. It will take years, no decades to grow back. And when it does grow back, Dominion comes by again.
State Corporation Commission complaints about utilities - 1-800-552-7945, also 804-371-9611, their general counsel Toll-free: (within Virginia) 1-800-552-7945; and email gencounsel@scc.virginia.gov.
Frankly this is another example why we need residents to send letters to the governor asking that he work to wrest some control away from the utility companies. As you know, there's not much County controlas to where utilities put new phone poles, or where they attach those 10 inch wide utility boots (blocking sidewalks) etc.
If you feel inspired to write letters here's one form you could cut and
paste from the attached example:
